WMP stops responding when rendering

Hi all,
I recently reformatted a system with XP SP2 and updated WMP9 it to WMP 10. Even when it was in 9 it had the same problems but i did'nt test it extensively.
PROBLEM: %85 of the time when i tell it to play a file (AUDIO OR VIDEO), i get "Windows media player has encountered a problem and needs to close...bla..bla... send error...". Does the same for files stored on my computer and files on the internet. It even makes IE stop responding when it played embeded files. Launch works pretty well... It NEVER hangs when i'm playing radio from WMP10.

I have 2 already disabled plugins(Nero fastburn, morgan stream swither) and an mp3 encoder added to it. I think i've come across the same problem once on in "Media player classic on someone else's PC"

I've run SCANDISK, tried reinstalling, considering going back to WMP9 cos i prefer it.

Hi adecold,

What error does it send? Like number and/or description?

Regards,
Zyloch

Zyloch : It's not a windows media player general error.. Its the whole application thinge. How you get a regular application error asking you to send to microsoft or not. if you need the whole technical stuff(like lots of lines) to be sent i'll send it to you.

 sunray_2003 : I've tried re-installing it in like 4 ways now....
=> Just running the installation file again
=> Going to Add/Remove programs to backdate it to wmp9 and then going to add/remove windows component and then unchecking it and then installing WMP9/10
=> & the commands you have up there... no luck still

As you must have seen in my other suggestion , if you have installed Sp2 , WMP9 would have come with it and you should have hard time reinstalling or removing it.. Possible solution to have WMP9 back is to reinstall OS if you want to consider it .
It is not unusual to reinstall the OS for solving issues with WMP... WMP10 beta was not able to be removed unless you reinstalled OS to say an example

UPDATE:
Hey I think i'm one step closer in solving my problem.
So far what i've done is to roll back to windows media player 9, Uninstall all codec packs and codecs. Now it seems to work(although i've not tested it extensively). I'll upgrade it to WMP10 now and then try installing a codec pack and see how it goes.

If it works fine in WMP9 , I would say in that version since WMP 10 came recently .
At the same time since I have not seen many issues with WMP 10 especially in EE since its release, you should be fine ..

I would recommend , uninstalling Wmp9 and then download fresh installation copy of WMP10 than upgrading..

FINALLY,
I updated it to WMP10, and tried installing k-lite mega codec pack, gave me the same error. after lots and lots of tries in the configuration of k-lite coded pack install, i finally got them to work together. I can't prescisly remember what i unchecked during the codec pack installation that made it work.
Thanks all
