How to disable write-behind caching?

I am trying to author a DVD and having problems.  The software suggests disabling write-behind caching? but the directions they give don't give me the option.  I am using XP Pro in the mode that looks like 98, if that makes any difference.

I am trying to make a Christmas gift and the DVD only plays so far then skips and stutters, and stops entirely, so I am trying to follow all the suggestions given by the software.

I have

3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache
2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
329.39 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
153.66 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

I hope that's adequate information.

Thanks for any help.

Go to Controlpanel and open Sysetem. On the tab Hardware, click Device Manager.
Click the plus to the left of "Disk drives" and you will see all your disks listed. Rightclick on one of them and choose properties.
Under the tab Policies you will have two choises, Optimize for quick removal and Optimize for performance. The Optimize for quick removal-option will disable write-behind caching on that disk.

That option is greyed out and I can't change it?  The other option is selected.  I have unchecked "enable write caching on this disk" but it didn't make any difference.  Why are the two options greyed out?

Thanks.

E is a partition of C
F is a partition of  D

Mother Board: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe

I use D for editing, it is so full now because I have saved a couple of copies of my video to the drive.

I don't know what you mean by hard drive type, except what I put above and in my first post.

I don't know what Mother Verdor means.

I hope this is enough information.

I have updated the firmware on my Plextor DVD-RW and the drivers on my Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum sound card.

I have all current updates to my software, with the exception of Windows Service Pack 2.

I have used Enditall2 to stop all processes running in the background.

Thanks for all the help, I hope I have given the correct information.

Okay, thanks so much for the time and attention.

I got the darned thing written, and am not sure exactly which answer was the right one, or if I did it myself.  After doing all the things I posted and the things recommended, I wrote it at a lower speed.

But, the posts here helped me a great deal in understanding some of the things puzzling me.  So I am going to split the points.

I so appreciate the time and patience.
