Autoexec.nt disappears from system 32 file folder
My computer uses XP. Whenever I try to open a 16-bit program ( when I have restarted my computer), I get the following message about 'autoexec.nt' in the System32 directory:
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Of course, chossing 'close' or 'ignore' brings the same conclusion; the program does not open.
I have scanned my computer for viruses using McAfee; also did Stinger online as well as the housecall at Trendmicro.com.
Nothing was found.
If I copy the file 'autoexec.nt' from 'repair' directory into system32 directory, then the program opens. However, whenever I restart my computer, the file is no longer in system32 directory and the program will not open, until I copy from the repair driectoryagain.
I cannot find my XP CD to expand certain files, as a previous solution was given. Is there anything that I can do, to keep from having to copy this file everytime I reopen my computer?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Its for XP also..:-)
You could also try the following tool. It will reinstall the files:

Copy the file over from the repair directory like you have done numerous times already, but this time make the file read only. (Right click - Properties Check the Read only box)
Worth a try?
I realise this is just a workaround, and if there is malicious software on there, it needs getting rid of. (Well, you know that already.)

removing autoexec.nt and messing with config.nt & command.com.
