System seems to lose communication with speakers and printer when I enable/disable Plug and Play.

Hello all.  As previously advised, I right-click My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services > to disable Automatic Updates, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Event Log,  and Help and Support on my system.  The only time i enable these services is when i go to the Microsoft Update Page to check for updates.  Afterwhich, i then disable these services again. It seems that after I enable/disable these services my system loses communication with the Altec Lansing speaker system and Lexmark X5270 Printer i have attached.  I also leave Universal Plug and Play Device Host set to manual.  Is there a connection between the enabling/disabling of any of the services above and the loss of comm with my speakers and printer?  Any help, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

First question "As previously advised, I right-click My Computer > Manage > Services & Applications > Services > to disable Automatic Updates, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Event Log,  and Help and Support on my system." why do you follow this procedure in the first place?

...for security reasons...right???  Disabling these helps me be more secure so i've heard plenty times.  Not in your opinion though?
Hi,

The event log service should not be disabled the other services are not required though if you so desire to disable them.

Microsoft Service Description

Event Log Service

Enables event log messages issued by Windows-based programs and components to be viewed in Event Viewer. This service cannot be stopped.

Have you attempted a reboot to see if the issue is resolved after disabling or enabling?
I  did stop the Event Log Service though.  Why is this service necessary in your opinion?  What does it do for me?  Is it required, like what negative effects will i encounter if it's disabled?

Thanks.
Hi,

The event log service does as stated here;

Enables event log messages issued by Windows-based programs and components to be viewed in Event Viewer. This service cannot be stopped.

This is a very important toool that can be used to obtain useful information about errors your system is having. The event viewer can often help pin point what is failing on your system and is one of the first troubleshooting diagnostic methods used by IT professionals.

So if disabled you lose the above insight into your systems problems.
OK... so Event Log is necessary, got it.  What about the Plug and Play?  Is that a security risk having it enabled, and will it being disabled cause my system to lose comm as i described?
