Unable to connect to logical disk manager service

I had a brand new laptop from DELL that the hard drive that was in the stages of death...only 3 months old, I might add.

Before the drive died I could not get the system to run a defrag or connect to the disk management.

DELL sent out a new drive, ghosted ....After the new hard drive was sent by DELL and ghosted to the new drive bingo the same problem...

It first starts out with RPC server not available...(I'm logging into the local computer, not on a network, as the administrator...the computer was in a domain).

Then if you close the error, you get the second message:  Unable to connect to logical disk manager service.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dale

Your OS on the old drive sounds wacky.
You ghosted the drive so the new drive will give you the same errors (os related errors).
Do a repair installation of XP and see if it corrects the problem.
Alternative : do a fresh install on the new hd and put the old one as slave in the system and copy your files that way.

good luck,

MrAruba
It might be trying to connect to a mapped drive that is not there now.  Check for that possibility.

Make sure that your "DCom service process launcher" is in Auto Mode.

You can check it via Control Panel >> Admin Tools >> Services

It could be the mapped drive...awaiting the user to determine if it's working after being re-attached to the network...but it had to be shipped to Maine...so awaiting its' arrival...

I'm looking at currently working system, but can't find the DCOM service process launcher....is it called something else?  This unit can contact the logcial disk manager with no problems....

Well let you know as soon as the laptop arrives.

Thanks,
Dale

And while you are at it take a look at the following (should be in auto):

Dang...it was the DCOM server Process Launcher....had to do a reboot and it worked fine....go figure....on one machine that process doesn't even exist but it can check the logical disk manager....

Thanks!!

Glad you got it working
