Can't log in to certain websites
I have tried for two days to log into my book club's website as well as register at my gym's website. When I do, it gives me an error of "Invalid email address". This address worked fine the last few days. The one for the gym gave me the same error when I was trying to REGISTER! No matter what email address I put in, it would give me the same error message. Someone please help!

If you tried on two different PC's, there is likely something wrong on the website . . it happens all the time

Maybe that is not what you were saying . . . do you have cookies enabled?

ASKER

I'm using Mozilla. I went into cookies and exceptions and added the sites to it. It STILL won't let me in. I also tried using it with IE and Opera. Same result.

I found out that it's reading my email address or password as "*********" instead of the actual words. Found out because the SAME thing just happened on this site and I selected "forgot password". When I entered my email address it said "**************** is not a valid email address". What in the WORLD is going on?!

Does this happen if you try this on another computer? ย If it does, then it sounds like this is a problem with their website, and there's not much you can do other than contact them about it.

I only have access to this computer. It's apparently happening on three different sites.

possibly malware on your machine, have you ran spybot &ย adaware recently?

try running disk cleanup to remove temporary files:
start>programs>accessories>system tools>disk cleanup

clear your browser cache:
IE>Tools>Internet Options>Delete Files(including offline)

if still trouble follow this link:

For antispyware add ewido to the mix. I believe that it's the best of them all. Free for private use.
http://www.ewido.net/en/
I use it in combination with Spybot &ย Ad-Aware - none of them do a 100% job but as a team they come close.

kudos vallis, you are right. I just recently started using ewido and it should definately be added to the mix. The only downside to ewido is that by default it runs all the time. On older machines that dont have the system resources, it can really slow things down.

littlecc,
see how those scans start coming back, then we might have better idea of whats going on.

Avatar of Alan HendersonAlan Henderson๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

I'm fairly certain that you're given the option of disabling that monitoring facility during installation.
And unless you pay for ewido, doesn't the background operation stop after the month's trial?
Anyway it may well be different now, I just checked ewido's website. They've merged with Grisoft (AVG) and there's a new version out.

I scanned with ewido, spybot, avg, ad-aware and spysubtract and didn't find anything. I just did a system restore to the day before it started acting up and THAT worked. My Zone Alarm popped up when I entered my user name and password for here asking if I wanted to allow a clear text to this site. That MUST have been the problem though I don't know how it got blocked to begin with. I couldn't access this site all day until I did the restore.

My Zone Alarm firewall is what is causing the problem. Does anyone know how I can get it to accept from now on? I tried adding the website to the safe list but still had to temporarily turn the firewall off to log in here.

No, I've had ZA. That's why I don't understand why I was
having problems all of a sudden.

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
