2003 Terminal Server with Quickbooks 2003

Has anybody tried implementing Quickbooks 2003 Professional onto Windows 2003 Terminal Server?

infynite,

I haven't tried this, but I think applications have to be configured/designed by the manufacturer to work on TS. Since Quickbooks Pro already has a client/server provision, I'd imagine Intuit wouldn't want you to be able to TS it.
Yes, I have done it, but if you want multiple users simultaneous access you must install a multiuser edition (we have the 5 user).
This is due to licenseing, if you use a single user copy it detects it as the same copy when a second user opens QB. I am currently working on a printing problem though. Print jobs from other apps, (ie: Word, Excel) work fine to the clients local printer but in QuickBooks the print job just vanishes. I am going to try mapping a LPT port to a session printer. I hope that works.
I have an objection here. I am not opposed to a split on this, but rbcurrier only stated what I stated earlier. Applications must be configured specifically to work with TS. QuickBooks uses a client/server method to handle multiple user access and charges for each license. Consequently, I'm sure they would be opposed to anyone "tricking" the product into being illegally TS'd.

Just my two cents.

Just for the record, Quickbooks has a problem with long printer names, I found this on the web somewhere else.  Also for quickbooks to run in a TS environment there are a lot of wierd permissions need to be set. Following is a clip from the web.  Note I am still in the process of testing this.

Users in the terminal services newsgroups have
reported that you can make QuickBooks available in a TS environment, if
you give the users some extra privileges. Here are the steps:

    * perform a normal installation of QuickBooks (in install mode!)
    * reboot
    * enter install mode again (change user /install), start QuickBooks
and activate it by entering the registration code (this is a crucial
step, and must be performed immediately following the reboot
    * go back to execute mode (change user /execute)
    * copy the %systemroot%\Intuit folder into each users
%userprofile%\Windows folder
    * create a Quickbooks Users group
    * add your users to this group
    * give the group Full Control to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intuit\QuickBooksRegistration
    * give the group Full Control to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.QPG
    * give the group Full Control to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\obja.obja
    * give the group Full Control to
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Quickbooks.application - QB Premier 2004 only?
    * give the group Modify rights to the Program Files\Intuit\Quickbooks
Pro folder

Also make sure that clients use short names for printers if they need to
print to a redirected local printer. Quickbooks cannot handle long
printer names.
The short answer to this question is yes and the post from rbcurrier is also valid.  Currently I support a client that has this precise implementation with a multiple client license for Quickbooks, it works alright as long as that sixth user doesn't try to logon, in which case the oldest account present will get booted and cause at times problems for that person to find the current database.

Hope this helps, as far as the installation of QB, it's pretty straight forward onto WS 2003.

Hello,
Can anyone speak to the lastest version: 2005?
I really can't install it in application mode?

Thanks
