That is strange but sounds like a config problem..the first things i would check are;
is the XP Pro inbuilt firewall on or off ?
Using netbios over tcp/ip or not ?
Do the workstations have Oplocks enabled or disabled ?

My first guess would be the firewalls, disable one and try a file copy.

Do you also have DNS/WINS running on the 2003 server yet?

And if so, are the clients (XP boxes) configured to use that servers IP for DNS/WINS?
Set your Internet Explorer Security settings lower - to medium low.
Mine were set to high when I had the problem.
I moved them to medium low or low and it went away.

You could also try medium.

In internet explorer
Tools, Internet Options, Security.

this is what i see. on my workstation under my network places, my peer to peer is listed under 'local network', but my server is listed under 'internet'!!! this seems to go along with the fact that my computer will not open .exe files from the server without a prompt. any suggestions as to how this came about??
What are you useing for your DNS server? What are the DNS settings on the new 2003 server and on the workstations? It sounds like the worksation is having a difficult time locating the server.
