Alphabetically Order Connections in Win2k3 Remote Desktops

Hi, hopefully a nice easy one for someone. I'm using Windows 2003 which has a nice piece of software called "Remote Desktops" where you add connections down the left hand side for all the terminal services machines you need to administer.
I am wondering how I can sort this list in alphabetical order, as it seems to be stuck in the order I added them, which is very confusing to say the least.

Sorry, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to do this.

Just click on the grey Name field column header at the top and it will automatically sort them in ascending or descending order and then you can save the config by saving the .msc when you exit.
I believe the reference is to the left hand column, under "Console Root"
My apologies the left hand side....  I think the easiest way would be to readd them in alphabetical order and then save the msc

Thanks Jeff, will use TSM.
Seems ridiculous that you cannot reorder the other program.
Well... you ARE expecting simplicity out of something that is rather complicated.  Here, take a look at this articla baout mmc's and then decide if you want to fiddle with it:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/1200/TView/default.aspx

Hmm, trying to use that TSM is not actually what I need. How do I actually connect to a machine with that, as in open a terminal services session and work on the machine remotely?
You just right click on the domain name and then "connect to computer".  Enter the computer name or IP and it'll connect (if you did the regedit I posted above).  You then save the connection in your Favorites.  It works almost exactly the same as the MMC, but it does get a bit more complicated because it shows all available connections to each computer.

I agree with you about the sorting, but honestly it works quite well for me the way I use it... especially because I have a similar console set up on each server that I manage which pulls up each desktop machine...

Mike... I think I just found something that will make you rather happy (as long as it doesn't crash your system...  this comes with absolutely no warranties.)

I couldn't let your question rest because I knew that there HAD to be a way... PLUS, I've been looking for something to CONTAINERIZE my desktops (3 monitors --- and I like different Icons on each but they get resorted when I connect remotely).  Tonight I found an incredible tool... called ExeDesk --  from http://www.pitrinec.com/exedesk.htm  -- sownload it and give it a try!

I've barely tested it on my testing machine but it seems to work rather nicely... not much of a resource hog at all.

You can configure it however you want, basically making a new toolbar, or most any kind of object on a separate desktop area...

Have found this still to be a problem even with the latest remote desktops for Vista.  The sort function is still not included with the snap-in.

This product seems to work well Royal TS by code4ward

This question is quit old, I have actually been using VisionApp's Remote Desktop for a couple of years now, and am very happy with it. vRD 1.5 is still Freeware, and can be downloaded from http://software.visionapp.com/1604.0.html
But RoyalTS looks very good as well, thanks for the tip!
