Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on Server\SharePoint.
Howdy!
I'm running a single SBS 2003 Server with MS Exchange 2003, DNS, DHCP, Routing and Remote access for VPN connections.
Software I have installed is Symantec Corp Edition 6.0 with Mail Security for Exchange and Brightstore Arcserv backup v11...both all updated to current stuff
Checking the eventlog i'm getting every 15 seconds
* Cannot connect to database:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Description contains substring '#50070'
Example: #50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on Server_Name. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running.

Typically this is used when accessing a MSSQL database correct? If so I don't use MSSQL on this server.
When i look in the Administratative Tools I see a link to Sharepoint Central Administration.
Clicking on this opens up my Symantec Mail Security for Exchange Web Configuration.
I can't find anything on Symantec website about this error and all other searches always point to a problem with MSSQL databases which in this case we don't have.
What and why is this error being caused? I have several other client servers with same configuration that do not get this problem.
and most of all how can I fix this?
Thanks

Is the MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service is listed as started?
ASKER
There is no MSSQL$SHAREPOINT listed at all. I had checked this also. But wouldn't this be installed only if you use software with MSSQL?

So with it not showing up was something uninstalled and is there a easy way of just reinstalling the sharepoint?
