Setting up Raid 5

I am creating a server with Windows Server 2003 Standard as the OS. I want to have Raid 5 with 3 SCSI drives. I have a rough idea on setting up Raid 5, but if someone could send me a link or give me some instructions on correct procedures. I have not installed the OS yet. Should I install OS first or what steps are included in the F6 option while setting up Server 2003.

If you have a good hardware RAID Controller though that supports RAID 5 thats a better option and it will do it for you.

I recommend using a hardware raid.

Yes it is more expensive, esp for SCSI.   If this is a problem, look at using SATA raid. I've got an Adaptec SATA Raid i'm very happy with. Good perfomance, great $ / gig.  4 x 200G = 600G SATA raid. less than half cost of SCSI.

SATA drives are cheap enough that I've got a cold spare for my 4-drive array to overcome the (possible) reduced lifetime of SATA vs SCSI drives

ASKER

I would like hardware RAID with SCSI drives. I really need basic instructions on how to set it up before windows installation and if I need to configure anything once windows is installed.
