I have a HP laptop that will not boot. I get a black screen that tells me the ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. I have looked at the drive by connecting it as a USB drive to a larger computer and all the files are still intacted and it would seem the krnl file is still in place. I do not know what was done to cause the error in the first place. I also tried doing a chkdsk /f from the startup cd and that found nothing. The startup cd does not fix anything and there are no restore points or any image back ups. It cannot access safe mode at all. Any thoughts?
