Problem on coverting from one number system to another

Hi folks.

I am making a program where mathematical operations have no limit. That is a data type whic h supports mathematical operations but has no limit.

This is being done using linklists.

Now I made it with every node holding a digit. Number system of 10.

But large computations are taking alot of time.
To quicken the process, I have decided to use a higher number system.

For exmaple if I switch from a number system of 10 to say 256 ( that is every node holding a value 0-255 and any number being represented as 256^n + 256^n-1.......+256^1+256^0). My addtions and subtracts and therefore all my computations speed increase.

If I go on to a number system of 65536 even better

My problem arises when I have to see the results is a human understandable ( i.e. 10 0r 16 number system ) form.

All the algorithms I now use the absolute value of the number.
wHAT i NEED IS AN algo which can convert say a 256 number system value into a 10 number system value taking one or two "256 digit" at a time.

I hope you get my problem.
