Acceleration

Asked by tigermatt in Math & Science Questions

A 100m runner accelerates from rest to a top speed of 10ms^-1. If they accelerate at a constant rate of 1.04ms^-2, how long does the race take?

Is the answer 14.8 seconds (3sf)? As per:

Time taken to accelerate = 10/1.04=9.6153...
s=ut+0.5at^2
s=0+0.5*1.04*9.6153^2
s=48.076...m

Distance remaining=100-48.076...=51.923...m
Time taken = (51.923/10)+9.6153...
t=14.8sStart Free Trial
