Different groups may define seasons differently.
European cultures often use  Autumn Winter Spring Summer or Fall, which are defined by the equinoxes and solstices

"The seasons they do change, or do they?"
    The short answer is yes
The long answer is is book length.
It depends entirely on your definitions.
The conventional answer is there are four (which change) In English usually denoted as Spring Summer, Fall, and Winter.
They can be unambiguously defined astronomically. The start of the season is defined by the intersection of a line between the center of the earth and the center of the sun with the idealized surface of the earth.
Spring when the intersection crosses the equator from S to N
Summer when the intersection is as far N as it gets
Fall when the intersection crosses the equator from N to S
Winter when the intersection is as far S as it gets.

Ancient Egypt used 3 seasons based around the inundation, the fertile period, and the harvest. Each of four months.
It worked for them for several thousand years.
UK schools have three terms (semesters?) throughout the year, Spring, Summer and Autumn. There is no Winter term although Spring term starts in January and Autumn term ends in December.

Thanks all, commenting from the sidelines...

    ozo > equinoxes and solstices

nice words there in the lead off position.

aburr > answer is is book length.... astronomically...

good, I'd not like this to be mere simple dictionary lookup ... another nice word there

RobinD > Ancient Egypt / UK

    nice contrast.

    So far, so 'nice'

    >>>(A)How many seasons are there?
    What do you thinK?
    >>>How many seasons do you think there should be?
    Depending on where I live
    >>>(B)How many seasons could there be?
As many days there are in a year
    >>>How many seasons will there be?
One (if climate goes on like this)

    >>>(C) How many seasons were there?
In temperate areas like Europe, classically 4 seasons are described:spring, summer, autumn and winter. In many tropical countries, only three are seen usually: a rainy season, summer and slightly colder period(more like autumn). Old Sanskrit (Indian) books mention 6 seasons-  Sisira (winter), vasantha (Spring), Greeshma (Summer), Varsha (rainy season), sarat( Autumn) and Hemant (dew
    >>>(D) Mix the above together, and what is the result?
How could you mix summer and winter? like black and white?
    >> What are seasons really?
Seasons are based on weather experienced in an area in a year- an arbitrary assignment of the type of weather in that area. Therefore, it will vary between places and even in the same place over a long time period. When it is summer in Europe, it is winter in Oz.

When I was in high school, we also had four seasons - football season, basketball season, baseball season, and summer recess. Now they all kind of run together.

OK, admitting not having thought of so much of that, although I thought it might need some rounding out, if only some season of groundhogs watching the birds fly north for the winter or something.

I considered suggesting someone attempt just some basic math on the impact of differential between nearest and furthest distance from Sol, just vanilla math without thermodynamics or other implications, but that can wait for another day, closing this one up.

Apparently four was the more magical number, introducing the likes of voilin 'strings' and the decades of partnerships. Nice.

    Thanks all.
