transfer of energy by heat revisited!!!

Hello

In thermodynamics, a reaction is exothermic if heat is transferred from the system to the surroundings. This normally happens if the products have stronger bonds than the reactants. The energy that was in the bonds of the reactants is 'released' from the molecules and then is transferred to the sourroundings as heat. How is this energy transferred as heat?

In this question i am just interested in reactions in solution if that makes a difference.

I imagine the energy released from the bonds could increase the kinetic energy of the neighbouring molecules. It could also increase their latent energy and effect their phase in certain circumstances.

How does this heat move? If we ignore the complexities of phase changes, thermal energy is transferred as molcules vibrate faster and then bump into other molecules and transfer their energy. At this point when we are talking about vibrating molecules colliding are we talking about kinetic energy or is it not as simple as that?
