faraday cage to block interference in channel mixer

Asked by HappyEngineer in Miscellaneous Hardware, Math & Science Questions, Miscellaneous

I have a channel mixer device that has a bunch of rca inputs and outputs. I can plug in multiple rca inputs and then mix them all together into one output. This is useful when I want to play music from my ipod and sound from my computer into the same speaker system.

The big problem is that the channel mixer picks up lots of em interference. When my computer is off, the mixer is fine. When it's on, the mixer screeches and scratches and sounds terrible.

A faraday cage around the computer is impractical. It's too big. The cage would get in my way. However, I was wondering if it would be possible to put the channel mixer into a faraday cage. Would that work? I've heard of faraday cages that are completely sealed, but I've never heard of one that had wires going in and out. Would that work? If so, is there anything special to worry about or should I just use one of the DYI pages that come up when I google "faraday cage"?
