Hi Guys -
I heard that RADMIN and similar products have tremendous overhead on PC resources and network bandwidth.
Is it true?
Please provide some justification and analysis for either yes or no.

I too would recommend RAdmin. It is very fast, fits on a single floppy, and does all I need.
It _appears_ to use up lots of processor resource on the server, but is actually runing as a lower priority tasks than anything else, so using up what's left, so you get the best speed without impacting server performance. You can reduce this still further by reducing teh colour depth sent to the remote screen & the number of updates per second. Any product like this should also only be sending data when the screen is changing, so the bandwidth used depends on what you're doing with it. I used to use it very succesfully over a 64k ISDN line before i got broadband, & I think I've even used it once over a 9k6 mobile phone link.

I understand amount of data transferred is a function of amount of activity being performed on the PC.
But still do you think it is possible to get some numbers, how much of network bandwidth it would use for a normal usage of PC by a developer working on 3 to 4 windows symultaneously.. that's what most of the technical people do.
Secondly, I am really looking for how much of server resource in terms of percentage of memory and CPU RADMIN takes.
OK, I did some tests on 5 or so machines, these vary from 400Mhz to 1.2 Ghz machines, so not particularly special.
Processor Util:
At 10 updates per second (quite fast enough) uses about 5% of processor resource, peaking to 85% if you move lots of stuff around on the screen.
If you put updates to 100 (default) then it uses about 40% processor, but remember this is because nothing else is happening. If other processes are using resource, then it will get less of the pie.
When Idle, processor utilisation is always 0%
RAM: about 1.5 Mb Ram idle & up to 7 Mb when actually working
Network Usage:
If I have control over 5 machines on my desktop, 100Mb network is used about 1%, peaking to 2% if something graphically busy is happening on the screen.

What OS.
RADMIN generally is less stable than VNC or a Term Server environment. The products are simply displaying whats on the remote server, so PC resources used are generally under 5% and network bandwidth should be 20-48k.
You would be better off to take a baseline of your current machine and test them real fast.
