Hi henrikatwork,

You'll need Apple Quicktime for that:

If you want to use Window Media Player, you can get QuickTime alternative.  It will install the necessary plugins for Window Media Player to play .MOV file.

If you don't like Apple or Microsoft, a great alternative is the open source app, VideoLAN.  It will play almost anything, and runs on any OS.

It can also stream those .mov files to other computers on your LAN

RealPlayer's RealOne will work as well, though you want to spend some quality time with the options menu turning off its attempts to take over your machine.

QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files (.mov, .qt and other extensions) without having to install the official QuickTime Player. It also supports QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages.

As a bonus, Internet Explorer will play all QuickTime movies that are embedded in a webpage. You do need a media player that is capable of playing QuickTime files. The included Media Player Classic supports it and works very well. The QuickTime Browser plugin supports Internet Explorer, Opera, Netscape and Mozilla. The QuickTime plugins include iPIX and QuickTimeVR.

Features of QuickTime Alternative 1.39 :

- Media Player Classic [version 6.4.8.2]
- QuickTime Codecs [version 6.5.2.10]
- QuickTime DirectShow filter
- QuickTime plugin for Internet Explorer
- QuickTime plugin for Opera/Mozilla/Netscape
- QuickTime Control Panel
- Extra plugins for QuickTime

Windows Media Classic Player is an excellent tool for playing any movie or audio file. This is a small and sleek utility but you must have certain codecs installed to play the associated files.

Hi,

all the above mentioned players are good, but I recommend DIVX : http://www.divx.com

It plays the most popular files...including .MOV, and you DON'T have to install plug-ins to watch certain other formats.

Enjoy.

Tell me what you think.
