Question

Program to simulate user activity, avoid shutdown

Asked by: raymm

I run Azureus.  If I leave my computer, it shuts down.  If I'm active on my computer, Azureurs keeps running, and my computer doesn't shut down.

I made an excel macro to fool my computer into thinking I was active so it wouldn't shut down over night.  But this band-aid solution has some problems.

Can someone suggest some small program that will fool my computer into thinking I'm was active so it wouldn't shut down over night?

Why does it shut down in the first place??
You must have some other program running and shuting the PC down. Just disable it.

Only shuts down over night, when Azureus running.  Does not shut down if Azureus not running.  Not aware of any other program shutting down computer.  Other Azureus users report same thing.

Please, some program to simulate activity.

weird, I have never heard that before, my PC is on 24x7all the time with azureus... (record being around 40 days uptime - till I had to reboot on account of driver updates)

I'll go look into it some more.

There is a setting in Azureus to shutdown computer when download is completed! That is most likely the issue!

Try with this one, you will have to record a set of movements for mouse, and so.. it should keep your computer awake...

to see if that's really it, just dowload a small torrent, and wait for it to finish, and see if it shuts down.

Open "Notepad", type something, and do not save it to a file.

Your PC can not shut down anymore - because it will not want you to loose the unsaved work in "notepad".

maybe try setting your antivirus or antispyware software to run nightly. Not only will the machine remain active, you'll be paranoid about security too.

just another thought, maybe something like SETI@Home or Folding@Home to run overnight or when the screensaver is activated. Keep the machine active

Use BitTorrent! LOL :) Honestly, I cannot find that parameter anymore. It may be a registry setting. I will investigate some more and get back.

It might be power saving settings.

While your PC is booting up go into BIOS, and see if there are any power saving settings there.

You can also check windoes for power savings settings.

If you have any motherboard drivers installed that sound as if it has anything to do with 'power saving' try uninstalling or disablign them. (last resort).

AMD Athlon 1800 MHz Socket A

Bios:  Award Software version ASUS A7S33 ACPI BIOS REVISION 1005 SIZE 256 B

But I really think it is related to Azureus, last night Az was not on, computer stayed on all night.  Other times, Az on, in morning, computer shut down.

I'm going to look at Autoshutdown plug.

Books, etc on keyboard did not work.
