Can other users on your system open attachments?  (Assuming this Blackberry is getting email from companies Blackberry Enterprise Server).  Blackberry BES administrators can turn off the attachment viewing.

Otherwise, try scrolling down to where it says '1 attachment', and make sure it is highlighted.  Then try a wheel-click and look in the menu for 'Open Attachment.'  You may have to scroll to 'Full Content' and then enter..

I know some of the newer BB's have the ability to open .doc, .xls, .pdf - Unfortunatly, I dont have a 7100 -series available to check out and help much further.

Good luck!

To add to what I've posted above, here is some info from the Verizon BB website: http://dts.vzw.com/faqs/Blackberry/faq.html#item4

----------------------------
I am unable to open attachments from within an email - why is this happening?
There are several possible causes:

BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BlackBerry Web Client is not being utilized.
- You must utilize a BlackBerry Enterprise Server or the BlackBerry Web Client in order to be able to open attachments.

The BlackBerry Attachment service is not running the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Contact the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administrator.

The BlackBerry Attachment application is not installed on the handheld.
- Verify the attachment module is installed, from the home screen open Options and select Applications.
- To install the BlackBerry Attachment Service using the Application Loader in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

What types of file attachments are supported? The supported file types are as follows:
Adobe PDF  1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4
Microsoft Excel  97-XP
Microsoft PowerPoint 97-XP
Microsoft Word 97-XP
Corel WordPerfect  6.0 - 2000
ZIP Archives 2.6 or earlier
HTML All
ASCII Text  All
-------------------------------

Hope this helps!

Did you get a chance to verify if the attachment module is installed??
-- From the home screen open Options and select Applications.

I'm trying my best with the menu options since I dont have a handheld with me...

i dont have a blackberry with this is my company president blackberry as soon i will get i try your sugessation . when i check application loader in desktop i have not seen any applicaion. what application i have to install and where i will get it

thanks
Here is the location of the add-on software (if it's not loaded on the handheld):
http://www.blackberry.com/support/downloads/attachments.shtml

I would look under:
Attachment Service - For RIM 950™/ RIM 957™ and RIM 850™/ RIM 857™ (add-on software)
-- Download BlackBerry Handheld Software
This add-on should be good for BB versions 3.6 or later.

The file will be an executable that will make the add-on available in the Desktop Manager's Application Loader.  Within the App Loader, you should be able to find the installed Attachment Service.

If you need detailed instruction on how to install the file, and use the Application Loader -- please look at the the BlackBerry Handheld Software Read Me - PDF located on the same site linked above.
I HAVE A BB VERSION 4.1 BUT WHEN I DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT.EXE ITS GIVING ME FOLLOWING ERROR.
"NO ADDITIONAL APPLICATION DESIGNED FOR YOUR DEVICE WERE FOUND "

Blackberrys can open a few attachment types by default; Text files and PDFs if memory serves me right.

If you have anything else, you will have to load the appropriate Blackberry app to interface with that specific attachment type.

Otherwise it should be noted that many attachements gets filtered out when messages are sent to the Blackberry device.  This is because at one point RIM and the accompanying service providers charged by the byte for sent email messages.  And paying for 1MB of data that couldn't be opened on a Blackberry didn't go well with users.

From the sounds of it you may already have installed all the apps that permitted attachment viewing; if I'm wrong you may want to check to see the vendor (i.e. Adobe) has anything.

Regards,
Can you open the attachment in another email client.....if so .. open it...look at it...delete it...and then let your blackberry move on to bigger and better things...
