Exporting to quicktime

I have created a tutorial useing camtasia and trying to export it out to quicktime. When I do it looks all crapy and the only way I see the buttons at the bottom is if I make the screen smaller. I have a friend who does tutorials in quicktime and they look really clear. Please help asap.

HI,

Try reinstalling quicktime.

Camtasia has great free support try them.
It's possible you don't have the video settings at higher-quality. Try going into video settings and make sure it is at a quality you want. For example: Size: 640 x 480... Basically the "Profile" for it. You might have it set for iPod video. The higher the numbers that better the quality.

It could also be that you are trying to record at full screen which will drop a lot of frames because recording at fullscreen at full frames for second requires a beefy computer.

How do I not record at full screen? Also could all of this be happening because I dont have quicktime pro?
You need to make it record by selected region or window.

Here is a tutorial:
http://www.techsmith.com/learn/camtasia/current/general/1201.asp

Hmmmmm...  I doubt it. Would you happen to know the quality settings you are using?
If it looks blocky and digitaly it is because of the quality, If the video pauses a lot or stutters it is because of the frame rate.
I always select window instead of region. I need to get the full window view.  I put the quality at best. It does'nt stutter or pause it's just chopping looking and not clear.
Hmmm... well then it should be something with the settings for sure, but you need to check the video settings, what are they? (640x480, 15fps,....)  Have you tried another format?
Why didn't you ask your friend??

Anyway, why don't you just export to flash which is embedded in html and then export to quicktime??
Ok. I will export to flash and see if this works.
I also want to know if there is any other programs to record tutorials in other than camtasia.
If you plan to go flash then, you should try CamStudio. This is the program I personally use. Best free one in my opinion.

http://camstudio.org/

It automatically generates an HTML page with the flash video. All you do is upload.
What I'm trying to do is make  a tutorial showing me teaching how to in macromedia 8. It will record everthing i'm doing on the screen. I will then put it on my site that I am building in flash.

try using desktp screen recorders.
You mayhave to convert to flash
My Screen Recorder Pro is a screen recording software that lets you record your desktop screen activity for later playback. Any application that runs on your Windows PC can be recorded including applications with video and audio. You can create presentations from the screen recordings by adding your own audio narration. You can demonstrate how to use a web site or explain a product concept.

My Screen Recorder Pro provides the ability to output your screen recordings to AVI, Flash or Windows Media (WMV) format. Screen recordings, done in AVI,
costs about 99 dolars

Standard version 29 dolars. covnerts to avi only.

ok. thank you all. I will go and see if I can get this camtasia exporting to quicktime to work first then I will split points. Thanks
I am running into another problem. When i record the screen and I'm moving the mouse around it sticks. Does anyone know whats wrong?
how much ram do you have?
you may have to stop a few programs?
reduce the audio settings.
Configuring the Frame Rate
http://www.techsmith.com/learn/camtasia/current/general/1105.3.asp?txtSz=med

Normal mouse and cursor movement can be jerky, hesitant, or too fast for the capture to pick up.
The cursor appears to jump and the program reacts before the viewer can see where the mouse is.
To eliminate some of these problems, practice the sequence slowly, then build up speed as you go.
You can improve cursor behavior using the Quick Capture feature.
http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia/versioncomp.asp
When showing cursor movement, pause a fraction of a second over the element, then click. This will allow cursor position to be established in the video before the next action takes place.
By viewing glitches and correcting them in succeeding takes, you will eventually come up with a professional-looking video sequence that you can save.

warpser suggestion has the guide..
ram is mpst likely the problem.

How do I find out how much ram I have? I have recorded with camtasia before with my laptop and never had any problems.

Camtasia exported it in flash but i see no where in the flash file where it says export to quicktime. Do I have to import it into a flash document first?
I think you import it into Quicktime
you have plenty of ram indeed..

I suggested my screen recorder which records your desktop above..
saves the files in avi.
To keep them small just record small segments.

You can convert AVI to flash

It plays great. I just cant put it on CD-Rom and I need to be able to do that and I need to make it into a zip folder but it says the size is too large. Is there anyway to compress it?
If you simply leave the flash file once you have succeeded in making it smallish, why the need for QT you can imbed the flash just the same in the browser.
SWFObject: Javascript Flash Player detection and embed script

Personally I prefer flash files in web pages over QT.

.

Since it’s track-based, QuickTime lets you work with all kind of media and languages to let you accomplish your desired end, from using Flash and QuickTime sprites to industry standards such as SMIL.

QuickTime and Flash Embedded
QuickTime supports Flash 5. Macromedia’s Shockwave Flash (.swf) file format is widely used on many web sites for animation. A .swf file can contain vector and bitmap animation, as well as interactive elements. With QuickTime and Flash you can easily create interactive movies.

To zip 9.13 GB use Win Rar as one option..
I have used this to save Bin and cue files of 10 gig size lots of rar files though.
Also when burning youmust copy them all off to one folder on teh hdd then unzip in one go as RAR continues onto the next until all are done.
RAR stands for the friendly name "Resource Adapter Archive" (think "aRchive") and it's most commonly used in the p2p world, in my experience. One big benefit of the RAR format that makes it so popular for large file sharing is that it lets you split up very large packages into smaller, more manageable flies that are then seamlessly reconnected during the unpack process.
For Windows users, there are a number of RAR packages available,
the best in class is WinRAR,it is fully featured and lets you create RAR archives using the store feature which zips large files into many smaller.
http://www.download.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html

and ExtractNow, which is less capable, but free.
http://www.download.com/ExtractNow/3000-2250_4-10038365.html
Ok. I will try the winRAR. I'm not embedding it into a web page I want to be able to send my tutorials to my customers in zip folders via download and send it to my customers in the mail on CD.
okay well there is no need to even zip them , is there any way you can split it in half. you can burn them as a data add menues using Nero
a 2 dvd pac :)
also another idea, just for you to consider now that I know what you wish to do.

send my tutorials to my customers in zip folders via download << have you considered torrents?
you couldmake a torrent add it to ftp or something then they could download the entire tool.
I have downloaded movies  from one of my member sites as torrents. CGNetworks. As we often have many sample movies to look at.

I will check out the torrents. Never heard of them til now. Also I have Nero OEM Suite. I will try and do the CD that way. I'll let you know in a few how it all turns out.
yep glad to introduce you to this.

Thanks, I will go check it out. I'mn trying to do the nero thing but it's not working.
It all seems a little confusing with the torrent thing. There no other way to compress these tutorials?
I think it has to be when you first record your demonstration. Here is what will define the outcome.
I have never used  this program camtasia, so would have to read up about it and how it works.
I would say your first hurdle is to over come  these large output recordings
What did you use to recor the desktop? camtasia?

Does it have shortcut keys to stop and keep recordings or settings to split recording times to lets say 200 megs.
Does it have any other output formats. What is the format it saves the activity too?

Yes I used camtasia to record the desktop. Yes it has shortcuts to record, pause and stop. Im not sure if it has settings to split recording times. It just saves it to camtasia file then I can export it to AVI, SWF/FLV, windows media player, real player, and quicktime.  When you say output formats do you mean exporting?
No i meant what formats does it offer>. you provided here>AVI, SWF/FLV,
have you tried recodring lets say 5 minutes then try aving one in avi then swf then Flv see which has the smallest.
Also the framerate as Size: 640 x 480...
I'll do a google for this camtasia and look for a guide so I can sink with your knowledge of it :)
be back soon okay.

Thanks for the links. I've only used quicktime. They say swf is for short files, mine are over an hour long. I like quicktime because it looks really good and clear.

Ok. I will check out everything in the morining. Im very happy that your helping me with this. Thanks so much. I would hate to have to go back and record all of my tutorials over again. They were so perfect and about 8 hours long. It took me about a week to get them all done. I'll let you know what happens in the morning.
I went ahead and exported it to AVI. It looks just as good as the quicktime but the file is much smaller. I was able to zip them up and also save them to CD. Thanks so much. You helped me alot.
excellent well done glad you have the desired results.
cheers and thank you
