Low Battery message on desktop PC

A Dell Desktop running XP periodically gives a low battery message telling me it needs to be plugged in.  It is the standard windows message you see on a laptop. It is not a message from the UPS.

Could it be for something else you may have installed?

I don't know what else would generate the message.  The PC has an ethernet connection to the network and an HP Deskjet Printer. There is nothing working on battery power
maybe a usb hub.  I would delete software.  Maybe even the printer software, leave it as bare as possible to see what happens.  Did you check the bios for any setting that would cause this?

Your problem is not unique.

I have yet to find an answer, but misery loves company.  Besides, maybe some of the suggestions listed in my link will be of use to you.

Just a wild stretch, could the CMOS battery on the motherboard be causing this error? They are pretty cheap to replace, it may be worthing trying to replace it and see if this resolves the problem.
Also, i know you mentioned earlier that nothing else was running on battery, but i just wanted to double check that you dont have a wireless mouse or keyboard on that PC.
Have you checked your Power Options under Control Panel?  There is a "Power Scheme" called "Portable/Laptop."  Is it set to that?
The PC was just installed a few months ago so unlee defective it shouldn't be the CMOS battery.  I will try a new one though when I get a chance.

No wireless devices (keyboard, mouse etc)

Power scheme is set to Home/Office Desk.

I'm at a loss

Also what UPS are you using, and is it connected via USB or serial
Are you using any software that came with the UPS to manage it? If so, check for some profiles in there as well....
solution found here EE
No, cable connecting to UPS.

double-checked the settings and found that it was set to give alerts for low power states (like a laptop).

Do not know why it was set that way, I would not have done so.

I suspect that the power supply IS going out, causeing the low power states and triggering the message and shutting down the system.

I will Change out the Power Supply next week when I have more time. (Also to see if this setting change worked.)
