The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Replace Shell for One User

Hi Everyone - how's thing?

What I would like to do is create a user account on my computer called 'Games' (limited account) for novice PC users (and techies) to use when playing games - so that they can't screw around with my PC. I'm imagining that I can create a program in VB6 that will link to all the games on my computer (I would add/edit these manually by reprogramming it) that I want to be available to them, plus shortcuts to Shutdown/Restart/Logoff/Hibernate/Standby the PC on the form.

I would then like to have that program startup with XP in replacement of explorer.exe - I've seen how this is possible by changing 1 or 2 registry keys, though never tried it myself. I want to ensure that two criteria are met, though:

1) - The shell is only used on the account named 'Games'. My own account will use the default windows shell.

2) - Logging on as 'Games' will load the VB app and nothing else. They shouldn't be able to access 'My Computer', My Docs, Network Places, Control Panel, Internet Explorer, Task Manager, etc. Basically everything besides the VB6 app and what it can run will be off limits - is that possible? Note - I also have FreshUI available to me to create further restictions if necessary (although not sure if that will be bound to just the one user account)
