I am composing a cover letter and wish to know what the abbreviation is for attachments.

"Enclosure" is used on a letter and "Attachment" is used on a memorandum. The appropriate reference, if any, should be flush with the left margin, two lines lower than the signature block. http://www.nist.gov/admin/

I agree. Spell it out, don't abbreviate it.
Attachment is also used for things stapled to letters. Enclosures are loose physical matter such as printed brochures. Directions should be attached, and so should appendices and contract modifications

Thanks so much everyone for the replies. Using the suggestions given within this thread, I was able to provide closure to the business letter being sent along with the electronic attachments of a resume and application.

I've never seen it abbreviated.
Standard use/syntax I've always seen and used is ''Please find [whatever it is you're including], attached.''
I believe the files sent along with electronic mail are named attachments after what they've been called in business correspondence since long before computers were invented.
You might find a copy of the AP Stylebook handy. The last time I saw a new one (2006?) they were only about $12. Hope that helps!
