I would call Linear and ask them how you can find out the model number of the unit. That is the only sure fire way of finding out how to program your remote and to make sure your remote is compatible with the opener.
Contact Linear: http://www.linearcorp.com/
Send them several photos of the opener if you have to. Take pictures of any label, tags, buttons, DIP switches, etc.

Most remotes are the same. Just make sure the "dip switch" settings are the same on the REMOTE as the OPENER in the garage. Then hold down programm button the actual OPENER (usually a colored button - often RED) until you see either Flashing LED (Red or Green) or a LED light up on OPENER. LED on OPENER lets you know it's in "program mode". Then hold down the button on the REMOTE you want to program. The LED on OPENER may flash faster or go steady (just depends but it should do something to acknowledge the OPENER received code from REMOTE). Remote should be programmed. Sometimes you will have to press "program" button on OPENER to get it out of program mode (as newer ones let you program more than one remote at a time), other models will only program one remote then automatially disable program mode.
If your opener is so old that it doesn't even have a program button, please reply with exact model of the opener and the remote. And, if you can attach a file with a photo of dip switches on both the opener and the remote it will help.
