Windows tries to open it with notepad and all it is a bunch of garbled letters and numbers, etc.
The file is safe..............I told the sender the results and a copy of what it looked like on my end and they said sorry, they do know another way to send it.
how can I open it?
(I put this in misc. because the first thing I think of about my questions is FILES and extensions. I look at the menu choices and have no idea where to go. I did look in Internet and saw e-mail clients and then went back to misc.
IS there a page on EE that list EVERY category within EVERY category we can choose from so I can make a complete list of every category and sub category etc. learn where to go?)
My question may also need to go to Microsoft. Unbelieveable % of the files I try to open Windows can not do it.

A question on, "How do I open a .xyz file?", is so broad I think you are absolutely correct in posting it in Misc.

putting the file in the browser box gets me this: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

When I copy the short cut and into a browser search box it changes it to "java script:"

I think there's a problem at the sender's end
You say they are trying to send a photo - .aspx is certainly NOT the format for this.
Get them to view the picture on their PC and then find out what picture format it is (either it is online - in which case often the quickest thing to do is try right-click, properties over the image, or it is on their PC in which case it means navigating to the icon for the file and doing the same. This way you'll get the file extension for the image file (.jpg, .gif, .png etc, etc...) Then the tricky bit will be talking them through how to attach it correctly...

aspx files should open in any web browser try opening your internet browser and then using the address on your computer for the aspx file to get it to display.
Or right-click "Open With" and choose your web browser
