Background: WinXP opsys; using IE 6.0, although I also have MSNexplorer on my computer. Both have been on my computer for over 6 months. I have ZoneAlarm and Norton AntiVirus installed and running, both for a year or more. My main ISP is Earthlink DSL - 2-1/2 yrs. now; and I have AOL 7.x for as long or longer.
A page comes up whenever I try to access my account pages: The page cannot be displayed - the usual thing about not being able to find the server, etc. I DO have 128 bit encryption.
I checked the PAQs and noted some things worth noting, but my problem is not there. I was online with Earthlink Techs for 2 to 2-1/2 hrs. a couple of nights ago, and they tried everything they knew how to try to correct it, some of the more non-tech things I had already done; but nothing worked. In fact, he is the one who referred me to this site.
They set my Security and Privacy settings to low (I had had them at Med) - didn't work.
They put # addresses in places in my Internet Controls - didn't work. We uninstalled and reinstalled Zone Alarm and Norton AntiVirus at least twice, trying to access the pages all the time, with one gone, and both gone. We uninstalled and reinstalled I.E.6 - didn't work. He kept going off and asking other people what to try, and said he had tried everything he could think of, and I still cannot correct the access. He worked a lot with my network connections, too. We cleaned out all the cookies again, which I had done in trying to correct the problem. I do not have other applications open when I am online. I checked the System Device Settings and there are no conflicts showing.
I am editing to let you know that he also checked what he called the *secure* ports, and after some checking, told me that Port 443 is possibly blocked or closed, because it would not allow me to type it in. I do not know what this past sentence means, but it might help
someone help me.
Can anyone help?
