The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Yahoo! search - Hijack and popups (2020 Search Toolbar)

Asked by PaladinWhite in New Internet Users

I use Yahoo! quite often for both work-related and personal searches. Recently I have encountered a problem when using the service. I am encountering search hijacks and multitudes of popups.

When I enter ABCD as my search term, the results page that is returned does not contain valid Yahoo! search results, rather, the links that are given are

"Find ABCD Using the FREE 2020 Search Toolbar!"
"Find ABCD at SMARTpages.com - Online Yellow Pages"
"Finding ABCD is a Click Away at 2020Search.com"

Also, once the 'search' is completed and I get the bogus results, I get a popup. The title bar is "ABCD - Microsoft Internet Explorer", and it displays the following links:

"Find abcd Using the FREE 2020Search Toolbar!"
"Find abcd with Free WebSearch Tools"

I have had problems with malware before, everything from popups to homepage hijackers to keyloggers. I have managed to get rid of all of them through various means, but nothing seems to work on this problem. I've

1. Run Spybot S&D and cleaned everything it detected
2. Run AdAware and cleaned everything it detected
3. Run SpyHunter and cleaned everything it detected
4. Run Trend Micro HouseCall and cleaned everything it detected
5. Run HijackThis and cleaned everything I didn't recognize
6. Cleared my cookies
7. Run RegEdit and manually cleaned anything suspicious

I'm at my wits end. I've run a couple searches through Lycos and Hotbot to try and find solutions, but I just come up with more pages advertising the '2020 Search Toolbar'. I'm also getting popups randomly when I browse pages I'm familiar with, I don't know if they're related, but they just started recently, along with the problem described above. PopUpStopper works on some, but not on others.
