What I am looking for here is an in-depth look at what might happen if your truths or what you hold dear fails to pan out or you discover something that will alter your stance on things. I'm looking for life altering changes, not that you discover a Twinkie started using sugar substitutes and the like.
Examples:
I am Christian, so I would be looking for a response from myself that would indicate what I would likely do if I ever came to discover that Christianity was false. For instance, proof of a superior technological race yet mortal creating life on Earth was shown clearly to me or if the principals of Christianity begin to not pan out any more for me.
Those with scientific stances, I would be looking for something along the lines of science altogether fails, what then? Or what if religion starts making sense to you?
I've only shown two sides, but I think it is sufficient to display what I'm looking for here
Yes, I realize this is a hard concept for people to understand. Points will not be awarded for such statements as "my truths will stand the test of time". I'm looking for an inner reflection of how you might react if this happened.
I'm also looking for what you thinnk might get you to that point? For instance, perhaps if God came face to face with an athiest or agnostic, that might be the deciding factor. If science created life from nothing, that might be the deciding factor for a religious believer. Things of that nature.
Some prereqs:
Since there are newcomers as well as old time friends who have shared their views in the past, a brief discussion on "that which you hold true" is in order before discussing what will happen.
For instance (hypothetical),
I am Wiccan and I believe such and such. What would challenge the truths that I hold dear would be if "this or the other" would happen. I suppose I'd be more inclined to then seek solice in science.
Of course, the more meat in the discussion the better.
I intend on splitting the maximum number of points of 500 and possibly more in subsequent "points for" question(s)(depending on participation and content of course), but am starting off with an initial value of 100.
Yes, I will put my own in there either at the end or when the conversation gets rolling.
I have attempted to question this in such a way as to avoid using words and concepts that might be offensive to others but it is possible I have failed. Just know it was not my intention to do so.
