Global Warming

If we assume for the sake of this discussion that global warming is real and is caused chiefly by the burning of fossil fuels, do you think it reasonable from an ethical point of view that the users and those who have profitted from the use of these fuels are responsible for any and all costs of any remediation/relocation/whatever required due to global warming?

If not, please explain why. I'm really only interested in reasons based on ethics, so please state the ethical principles behind your reasons.
