Respect for Religion?

Given that Religious belief is a subjective matter of accepting that which cannot be objectively demonstrated,
and Given that Religious scriptures and dogma are similarly a matter of acceptance rather than demonstrable historical truth
and, as is easily demonstrated, each of the world's major religions has, throughout history,been composed of a great many warring sects, schisms and cults, each of whom is absolutely certain that *they* own the ONE TRUE GOD and that anyone who does not agree with their particular theology, even their own co-religionists, should probably be put to death,

Then, why should the symbols, or even the gods, of any particular religion, be entitled to any automatic entitlement to "respect" Are there not far greater crimes (all of them, again, throughout history often perpetuated in the name of religion) than verbal or graphic slurs against gods or prophets?
