Was Adam Always Evil?

This question deals with the period before Adam ate that apple.

Yes, people have free will but that doesn't explain much.

I have free will, but that doesn't mean I'm going to steal or kill or rape.

The formula is something like the one shown below.

What was wrong with Adam that he did this?

Was Adam somewhat evil?

Was this a flaw?

Is this a manufacturing defect?

Couldn't humans have been created such that:
- Their fear of bad consequences overwhelmed their temptation
- They tended to have an overwhelmingly larger moral barrier against bad acts
- They tended to be placid and not ever desire things

Was this a fair test or if you leave tell someone not to do something and leave them idle in a garden for eternity they will do it sometimes?

Was Adam adequately apprised of the consequences or was this a "Don't eat the cookies" situation?

If I have free will, shouldn't that mean that the concept of original sin is completely wrong because I should only be judged on what I do?
