As I was perusing the bible...really i was i swear...I read a line in first letter to the corinthians 14:34...that states Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak"....there is a bit more but that is the part I would like to question those that are church goers..

Why is that in the bible and yet not followed...not that I am supporting that statement in any way I feel the opposite but why is it in the official word of GOD if it is not to be followed?

If I am not clearly asking the question please ask and I will restate...

Thanks for all the posts....I think this conversation could go on forever.

FYI...I did read the whole letter to the Corinthians so I do get the context of the letter. I also read the parts about women's dress such as being velied etc....I am sort of divided about the meaning of the line...while if I was defending it I would argue that it was intended to imply or state that only men could hold a position of power in the church. However, I could easily argue that it was a slap in the face to women and meant to keep their mouths closed in church. I believe it goes on to say something about asking your husband at home even more implying that it literally means not to make themselves heard in church.

I agree that this could clearly not be the intent of a just loving GOD as the Christian/Catholic church describes...

I am surprised about the different versions of the bible and it brings up more questions about the so called "divinity" of the book.

I always realized the book was man made to some point through various councils of the church but I didn't realize it was edited many more times and for what sounds like making certain areas of the bible less controversial.

I have been spending some free time thumbing through the bible...I guess one of the versions at least and trying to read it and honestly the more I read it the more I start to believe it is not the word of GOD. I am all for GOD's existence but the bible and its' history don't prove that to me.

I respect everyone's opinion on the matter and I thought you might be interested in mine....Again I appreciate all the responses...I gave points based on the first person to supply a complete answer for my question whether I liked it or not...and although some posts were interesting they went on a tangent not really stated in the question.
