Where did God come from?

And the answer I'm looking for isn't "man created god". I'm looking for a theological, apologetic explanation to help me understand creationist reasoning.

If the reasoning behind a creator god is; 'this all had to come from somewhere', then why abandon that reasoning when it comes to a god himself? Didn't 'He' have to come from somewhere too?

As Sagan said; if God has always been and will always be, why not simply skip a step and apply this to the Universe? Why can't it have always been and will always be?

For the sake of this this thread, let's keep on topic as much as possible. The most theologically sound arguments get the points, even if I disagree with them.
