Manslaughter

If one commits a crime which results in the death of someone, then they will face heavier punishment (e.g. Dangerous driving vs death by dangerous driving). But this makes no sense to me - it would seem that we're handing out punishments for bad luck.

Take as an example: a man is doing 50 in a 30 zone; a child steps out into the road and is killed. The man will then get a heavier punishment than someone being caught by a speed camera. But fundamentally, what's the difference? They both doing exactly the same thing..

Any comments?
