With the many of the primaries completed, the front-runners are well established (Obama, Clinton, McCain). I'm curious as to who people here would support. My political viewpoints are closest to those of the Libertarian party, so I'd love to see Ron Paul win, though since he has no chance to win, we're left with the 3 who are likely to be on the ticket. Most important is the race between Obama and Clinton, since they are neck and neck right now. So, the question is, if Clinton wins, would you vote for Clinton or McCain? If Obama wins the primary, would you vote for Obama or McCain? And why?
To start, if Obama is on the Democrat ticket, I'd vote for him. The reason is not that I agree with most of his positions, but rather that I actually believe him when he talks. He seems like he actually stands for what he believes in rather than saying what the pollsters tell him to say. I'd rather have a president that I disagree with, but who I trust, than one who's positions are in line with my views, but I don't know if he really believes in them or not.
If Clinton is on the ticket, I'd vote for McCain. I really don't want to see Hillary getting back into the White House, because I don't trust her one iota. She takes whatever position seems likely to get her the most votes, rather than standing by what she believes. I don't want a president that talks out of both sides of his or her mouth. Plus her latest comments regarding her health care plans just plain scare me. She has said we should garnish people's wages to force them to buy health insurance. So, she'd raise taxes on everyone to pay for her national health plans, and then garnish people's wages (just another form of tax) to cover the additional cost. All in the name of providing a national health plan that would essentially ruin the private insurance industry because what employer is going to pay premiums for insurance when the gov't provides it on the cheap?
I also don't trust McCain because he has flipped and flopped as well, but at least some of his views have stayed consistent. He at least is strong on national defense, and is not a religious zealot (like Huckabee)... And he doesn't support raising taxes on everyone to fund some new huge governement waste project. I'd vote for him before Hillary, but would vote for Obama before him just because of the trust factor.
