Used to be MAD attempt to eliminate Saturday Night Specials, so cheap gangbangers could afford to buy, so outlaw them. Some failed to work. I'd thought it better than having them steal something bigger. Then one kid got angry with another, pulled out a .22 and emptied all six shots point blank. The victim ended up going home later that day after a visit to hospital. Go figure.

As I am posing Q, not for me to say, but I'd not disagree that that view is a part of pro/con provided by others.

They said they thought it was locked up.
Had it required another item (ex: watch) to be within 10 feet as well...
Suppose they could say they thought another person had it on their possession.
Still hard to think of 1 yr old being so adept/inadept with gun, with gun unloaded until needed for use.
