How to include a picture from a URL

I have a mail merge document that I am creating.  I included a picture using the insert button from the toolbar and then told it to use a mail merge field as part of the path to dynamically find the relevant picture.  This worked nicely.  Now I need the static portion of the path to point to a URL instead of a file location.  I cannot figure out how to do this.  
Any ideas?
