You can protect the worksheet using Tools-Protection-protect sheet but it's really easy to crack the protection is someone wants to. It will probably stop a casual user though.

Browse All TopicsHi,
I am sending a spreadsheet to a person and he may do modifications in the spreadsheet. But there are columns in the spreadsheet which he do not need to know about so I would like to hide the columns and lock them and maybe password protect the sheet so that they cannot do any modification on that column and he cannot unhide the column. What I would like to know is if there is a way to hide and lock a column and no one can unhide the column except me. But still anyone can view and edit other columns in the spreadsheet.

Hide the column and then protect the worksheet.
Tools=>Protection=>Protect Sheet.
First, you'll have to unlock each cell that you want the user to be able to modify.
If the rest of the sheet can be modified, just select the entire sheet, right-click and choose format cells. Go to the protection Tab and uncheck the "Locked" box.
Good luck
