It would be a workaround, but you could try using an object variable for the document and using Range.Find

On Error GoTo ErrHandle
..........................
strDocPath = App.Path & "\BookingDetailsView.dot"
Set wdApp = New Word.Application
wdApp.Documents.Add Template:= _
strDocPath _
, NewTemplate:=False, DocumentType:=0
wdApp.Visible = True
With wdApp.Selection.Find
.Text = "$AsAtDateTime$" 'THIS IS WHERE THE ERROR OCCURS WITHOUT BREAKING ON ERROR
.Replacement.Text = Format(Now, "dd-mmm-yyyy hh:mm:ss")
.Execute Replace:=2 '2 is the ms office constant for replace all

Hello Sam_Talbot,
Not sure I can answer with the extract provided but I do note the use of App and WDApp, I presume only one of them is instantiated, though teh reference to app precedes wdAPp instantiation so I could be wrong and if then it will certainly help to know what line is identified if any, and a more representative section of the code
Regards,
