The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

ParallelPeriod and YTD to calculate cumulative value for last year to date

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create a cube calculation to display last year to date in a report.

The report uses a set to filter a Y-W-D hierarchy to display the weeks which have happened in this reporting year. On the rows I have the week number attribute and also the date attribute (so at the moment there are 33 rows) Data is reported to us weekly and is stored against the week ending date (usually a Saturday). The date dimension contains one member per day.

The report is fine when I add the value and also a calculation to show show sales for the previous period ->
sum

(PERIODSTODATE([Date].[Retail Calendar Hierarchy].CurrentMember.Parent.Level), [Measures].[Value])

However, when I expand this calculation to look at cumulative sales for last year to date, the report changes to show a row for every day this year, the actual value for the sales week end date (the last date of the week) and then a culumative value which is the same for each day of the week but does increment when moving into each new week.

This is the mdx I have created:

 SUM(YTD(ParallelPeriod([Date].[Retail Calendar Hierarchy].[Retail Year], 1)), [Measures].[Value])

I guess, what I need to do is tell it to only look at weeks, but I've no idea how to do this. Can anyone suggest where I might be going wrong?

Many thanks!

Matt
