How to update object pulled from LINQ query?

Zones: Language Integrated Query - LINQ, Microsoft Visual C#.Net, .NET Framework 3.x versions

In .NET 3.5 (C#), I need to update an object in a List<T>. I get the object out of the List<T> by querying it. I want to simply overwrite the queried object with the parameter object (of the same type). I'm running into conversion errors. What am I doing wrong? I've outlined two techniques I've been trying.

If I can get the object from the query and update it, doesn't that update the object in the List<T> since it is a reference? Is this the ideal way to update it? The object will only be used in the List<T> and later possibly dumped into a database (where more UPDATEs will occur) depending on conditions.
