I am developing an asp.net app that will be distributed to unknown users once completed. I have created a web setup project with sql server as a prerequisite and everything installs fine on target machines. The problem I have is when it comes to connecting to the sql server.
I am using windows authentication, and this requires the machinename\aspnet user to have access to the db. However, I obviously don't know the machinename of every client that will want to install it. This leads me in to thinking that it might be best to go for sql server authentication instead of windows.
Is it possible to configure the sql server installation (that happens at program installation) to use sql server authentication and specify username/password to match that in web.config? I want the install process to happen as seamlessly as possible, without the client having to install management studio and mess about with config themselves.
If there are any other suggestions I would be eternally greatful, or if you think I'm barking up the wrong tree with this do let me know. I'm open to suggestions.
Many thanks
