How to query Active Directory (AD) using VB.Net

Hi Experts,

I'm a junior VB.Net programmer and all I know about active directory is that "it's something that stores data of users".....

I need to query AD to get user details back from it.  I don't yet know what exactly these details are but desperately need to get up to speed with what Active Directory is and how to query it using VB.Net.  I'm assuming that there is some sort of connection string and API in VB.Net to achieve the connection and data retrieval....

Can someone please get me started???
