The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I create a Web User Control (ascx file) project in VS 2005?

This is pure insanity, IMO.  I had been used to VS 2003.  And made the move to 2005, but I hadn't really done anything but .NET and web services (though I had serious issues w/the stupid 'Web Site' paradigm when 2005 first came out.  Now they have WAPs.

Anyway, I am trying to create a set of VB.NET custom user web controls.  I created a Class Library, added a reference to an IIS virtual directory, and then tried...well I tried EVERYTHING!  But I cannot 'see' a project or an 'item' that says 'Web User Control'.  All I see are Web Custom Control and other items that do NOT CREATE AN ASCX FILE!

Why does Microsoft make this so hard to accomplish?  Am I missing something basic about VS2005?  If so, what is it?  I do *NOT* want to create a website solution.  I ALREADY HAVE AN ASP.NET 2.0 WEBSITE CREATED.  I just want to create a set of ascx files and such that can be *used* in this (or other) websites.  And I want to be able to end up with a real DLL, not some GUID-prefixed thing hiding in an ASP.NET folder in my system folders.

Can someone detail for me the specific steps I need to accomplish this? (Create a class library project/solution, then add VB.NET Web User Controls (ascx files) to this class project)?

Thanks in advance for your expert advice.
