VSS (Visual Source Safe) menu options are not being displayed in Visual Studio 2008

I am having trouble getting VSS integrated in VS2008
- VS 2008 Team edition
- VSS 2005
- Installed VSS Update (vs80-kb943847-x86-intl.exe)  fixes
- Install ed VSS Update (VS80-KB939808-X86-ENU.exe) vs2008 compatability (I thought)
- Registered tdnamespaceextension.dll
- rebooted several times....

I can launch VS2005 and add project thru the VSS interface but can not do anything thru VS2008
I expected the menu options to be displayed just like in VS2003.

I was not able to find any settings in VS2008 that said. 'enable source code control'.  So I am not sure if it is a settings problem, or more of an install problem.
