I don't call any methods from null objects. But I noticed that the first line of the error message gives me the index that is out of bounds and it is always 1 greater than there are indexes for text in the box. If I type "yes" the index out of bounds is 3. I can also use JPasswordField in the exact same manner on the same frame with no errors.
