I think you need to give vim the "stays on top" attribute. As ahoffman posted, how you do that depends on your window manager (aka desktop). "Focus follows mouse" might also be helpful, if you don't already have that
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI'm using vim as my HTML editor.
I want to be able to return to vim automatically after executing a command to load into Firefox the file I am currently editing.
This vim command loads the page being edited in Firefox:
map tr :w<Enter> :execute "!/usr/bin/firefox -new-tab http://weather.yahoo.com & "
However, after it loads in Firefox, focus stays on Firefox. I want to be returned to the vim window automatically - as if I hit Alt-Tab.
This way, I can keep editing and testing without my hands even leaving the keyboard.
Would speed my development and be very helpful.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 with Gnome.
Thanks.

this is neither a vim nor a firefox problem but one of your window manager
you need to check your window manager how to switch the focus to an application
