You didn't specify how are the columns delimited, but try strinstream, it works the same way as any stream but on top a of string, so you can parse the line you just read from the file.

Browse All TopicsHi,
I need to read from a text file that is basically composed of 3 columns. The first two columns are integers and the third column is the description of the item on inventory.
I need to read these 3 columns and get the total count on the inventory which is the second column. The first column is the item number which has to be sorted numerically.
After I read this file I need to produce a second text file with the total inventory count and the items sorted by item number.
I am not too familiar with C++ so any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can split each line by the token.
you can use strtok in C; if you want C++ code, you can use string::find.
